We de-risked a novel surf wave generator designed to produce continuous, surfable waves within a compact footprint.

Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with a free-surface multiphase model, we simulated the pneumatic wave-pump system and tank geometry. This allowed us to study wave formation, focusing and dissipation within a 360-degree artificial surfing-wave concept.

The study assessed different duty cycles, plenum pressures and nozzle arrangements. We also examined how baffles and tank contours affected crest height, peel angle and potential ride length.

The grid and time-step strategy captured the interaction between the air jets and water, as well as sloshing within the tank, while maintaining a practical simulation time. Verification checks ensured reliable comparisons between the different design options.

Key performance indicators included wave height, periodicity, energy efficiency, splash containment and local loads on surrounding structures and equipment.

The preferred operating range produced stable, repeatable waves with improved uniformity. It also reduced unwanted splashing and structural loads.

The findings provided clear evidence to support prototype development, control strategy design and stakeholder demonstrations.
