Manchester Simulation was engaged to deliver advanced CFD analysis for the external plant room at Global Switch London East, following the replacement of an air-cooled chiller bank in the Northeast Quadrant with a new set of water-cooled chillers and hybrid coolers.
Our team developed a detailed 3D model of all rooftop components and carried out simulations under a wide range of wind conditions and heat loading scenarios, in line with ASHRAE guidelines, to ensure full compliance. We also evaluated and modelled a number of mitigation strategies to confirm that the upgraded cooling system would perform reliably under worst-case operating conditions.
Despite the scale and complexity of the plant and equipment involved, the project was a success: the final design was validated through our simulations and was subsequently approved and implemented by the client.
