The main aim of this project was to simulate 4 different spaces within the new Monklands University Hospital (i.e. Monklands Replacement Project - MRP) using CFD and assess airflow direction in each space, to confirm good air mixing within each room. The 3D models of the spaces were generated which also included furniture, internal fixtures and adjacent spaces as well as active pressure stabilisers (APS) and transfer grilles (TG). The simulations were conducted based on the pressure cascade data and numerous scenarios were modelled based on different occupancy and usage of the spaces. In addition, important details such as doors opening/closing and air leakage were accounted for in order to increase accuracy. The results enabled the client to optimise the positioning of supply & extract grilles in each room and assess the effectiveness of APS, TGs and other components in each space
