Semiconductor assembly and test operations are under pressure for fast delivery. As a result, accurate capacity planning is critical, both to ensure on-time delivery and to maximize profit margins. TestSim®/X is designed specifically to manage semiconductor assembly and test operations. Using advanced simulation technology, TestSim/X quickly assesses the impact of changing product mix, multiple equipment configurations, available personnel skills and various operating policies on product throughput, cycle times, and Work-In-Process (WIP). With TestSim/X, users can:
▪ Reduce cycle times.
▪ Maximize equipment and personnel utilization.
▪ Determine accurate capacity needs.
▪ Reduce WIP.
▪ Identify bottlenecks.
▪ Manage production costs.

Optimize resource allocation
With equipment costs and device complexity continually rising, it is critical today to optimize resource loading. The complex interactions and staggering number of alternatives involved make this task especially difficult. With TestSim/X planners can now determine new ways to minimize the number of equipment set-ups while maximizing throughput.

Tester modeling
TestSim/X eases the difficult task of analyzing tester, handler and hardware capacity, capturing the interaction between resources and various test modes on multiple heads. TestSim/X also allows the user to customize the tester and handler combinations with set-up hardware for each product with up to six levels of hardware dependencies.

Sort
TestSim/X allows accurate modeling of wafer sort operations with die level test times, die and wafer index times and wafer to die conversion.

Burn-in
Sophisticated burn-in oven models can be created in TestSim/X to accurately forecast burn-in board requirements and overall capacity. The user can specify different types of burn-in ovens as well as the number of boards, sockets and process times by product.

Lot splitting in assembly
Assembly operations need to determine optimal lot sizes and control splitting of large lots to minimize cycle time through bottlenecks, such as wire bond. TestSim/X provides sophisticated lot splitting rules which allow the user to experiment with various lot sizes, re-grouping points and equipment dedication strategies.

Immediate results
TestSim/X is fast, taking only seconds to simulate months of detailed assembly and test operations. As a result, users can determine the effects of different "what-if" scenarios, and quantify their impact. Companies can quickly evaluate operational strategies to optimize assembly and test capacity, justify new capital and personnel expenditures, and understand the effects of changing product mix.

Easy to use
TestSim/X has built-in logic specifically for semiconductor manufacturing. This means users do not devote significant time adapting generic tools to meet their unique requirements. To get started, the user builds a model of the manufacturing process using a simple menu-driven, point-and-click interface. To make model building even easier, the user can import existing data from spreadsheets as well as from inventory tracking systems and other legacy systems.

Comprehensive information
TestSim/X provides comprehensive and meaningful information in a variety of graphical displays and reports. Standard reports cover a broad range of critical information including equipment utilization by product, throughput and cycle time by product, downtime, queue sizes, and WIP levels.
